Beamer bullies Jaguars on soccer pitch

Beamer wins SPSL contest due to two first half goals

Published: April 25th, 2008 12:27 PM

The Emerald Ridge Jaguars boys soccer team couldn’t overcome mistakes they made in the first half against Beamer on April 18 in Federal Way.

Beamer’s Ugo Okoli scored the first goal of the contest in the 18th minute and Daniel Nam found the back of the net in the 22nd minute giving Beamer a 2-0 victory.

Emerald Ridge head coach David Rosdahl said the weather conditions in the first half were less than ideal.

“It was snowing pretty hard throughout the entire first half,” Rosdahl said. “It was blizzard-like for awhile there. It was kind of crazy.”

Beamer’s first goal came because of an error by Emerald Ridge’s defensive backfield, Rosdahl said.

“The ball was in high in the air and it bounced at about our 15-yard line,” Rosdahl said. “After the bounce we stopped running after the ball and they (Okoli) kept after it and just punched it into the goal.”

Just like in the majority of soccer matches, goals usually come in bunches. Beamer got on the board again only four minutes after their first goal.

“On their second goal we just had poor marking in our defensive third,” Rosdahl said. “We were a little out of position and they happened to jump on a loose ball and put it in.”

Even with the slew of mistakes by his team on defense, Rosdahl praised the Beamer players and coaching staff for putting together a good game plan against his team.

“It certainly wasn’t our night tonight,” Rosdahl said. “It was there night. They played a good game.”

Rosdahl said standouts on the Emerald Ridge side included Chanuk Park, Tim Hanson and Sean Fernando.

The Jaguars currently are in third place in the SPSL South Division with a league record of 6-3-1. The top four teams from the division advance to the district playoffs. Beamer currently is in fifth place sporting a record of 5-3-2.
