Beyond the Athlete: Three sport star does it all for the Rams

Published: May 15th, 2008 02:18 PM

There aren’t too many high school athletes who can do what Rogers senior Bailey Williams does.

Williams has participated on the soccer, basketball and track and field teams for the Rogers Rams for the past three years.

Playing three sports isn’t unique to Williams, it’s something she’s done for as long as she can remember.

“I’ve always done it since I’ve been young,” Williams said. “It’s just pretty natural for me and is something I’m used to.”

This fall, she will play soccer for Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. Williams received a partial scholarship, 60 percent, to attend the university located in southern Idaho.

Williams currently is one of the best throwers on the Rams track and field squad.

“My favorite event is the javelin but I got fourth in state in discus last year,” Williams said.

While she will compete on the soccer pitch in college, Williams admitted her favorite sport to play is basketball.

“I love soccer but basketball is my passion,” Williams said. “In basketball your part of almost every play. In most sports it isn’t that way.”

Recently, I had an opportunity to ask her questions about her life outside of the athletic arena.

Shaun Scott: Who was your idol growing up?

Bailey Williams: I don’t know if I had any idols but I had role models. They are my parents and my family.

SS: What is your favorite movie of all time?

BW: Anything with Matthew McConaughey in it. He is really good looking.

SS: Where is your favorite place to dine in Puyallup?

BW: The Rock. I love their brown sugar bread. It’s amazing.

SS: Where do you see yourself in five years?

BW: Hopefully I will be graduated from Idaho State. I want to study photojournalism and sports science with an emphasis in outdoor education.

SS: What are some of your hobbies outside of high school sports?

BW: I’m really into photography, snowboarding, boating and wakeboarding. I also like to hang out with family and friends.

SS: What is the last book you’ve read?

BW: It’s ‘Redemption’ by Karen Kingsbury. It’s an amazing book.

SS: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?

BW: My grandparents in Arizona. I’m tired of this weather. It’s fun to hang out down there.
