Biggest Winners Journal: Getting used to counting calories, but discovering long lost muscles

Published: April 3rd, 2008 12:36 PM

Week two

This week wasn’t so bad. I think I am getting more used to doing the calorie count and balancing my exercise.

Monday was my first group exercise and I enjoyed it, that was until the next day and the day after. Apparently there are muscles in my inner knee I haven’t used in years, if not ever.

Katie and Amber, our trainers, are awesome they are very motivating and they have a smile on their face the entire time.

We started with the track and walked a couple of laps and then we went onto the treadmills.

By the end I was running at full speed and almost had the incline all the way up (I walked part of that, hills are not my friend yet).

On Wednesday we met at the Metropolitan Market and had our own little tour throughout the store, looking at labels and what to watch for and what to avoid.

With these tips I don’t think I will ever have a quick trip to the store. It takes time looking at the labels and understanding what you are actually eating.

At the end of the night we did a shopper challenge. All the teams went off in their own groups and needed to find a product in each food group that consisted of specific requirements. The black team kicked butt — we won the challenge! The employees there were so nice and helpful, one of the employees helped us with any questions we had.

There were vegetables I have never heard of there, they have such a variety of food and also recipes to help with ideas on how to cook them.

We didn’t have a weigh in on Wednesday because we were not at the nutrition office so I don’t have a number for pounds lost yet but I’m excited to see how I am doing.

Tip for readers

Make sure you are drinking enough water. I have found that the more you drink, the less snacking you want to do. Just know you’ll be up to the bathroom more times then you have ever expected.
