Pierce County runs smoothly when volunteers are involved.
They play an important role in advising county departments, making recommendations to council members and pointing out places where money should go. Marlette Buchanan, with the county’s department of community services, said volunteers just help Pierce County do business better.
So, with several positions up for grabs soon on some advisory boards, and with some commissions expanding to include more residents, the county is actively seeking out replacements before the seats go vacant. It’s a great opportunity for residents to get involved with their community and have an impact on county government.
Democracy depends on civic engagement.
