Editorial: Red light cameras save police officers’ time

Published: January 31st, 2008 12:06 PM

Puyallup isn’t spending money for red light cameras unnecessarily. Each day, dozens of drivers soar through red lights — not yellow lights that are about to turn red, but lights that were clearly red before entering the intersection — putting their lives and those around them in danger.

Puyallup police don’t have the time to sit at these intersections and ticket drivers speeding through a red light. That’s time better spent elsewhere. Red light cameras are a good solution.

It’s not a matter of being sneaky by taking pictures and mailing the ticket a few weeks later — everyone knows exactly what a red light means. That isn’t any great mystery. And if you don’t stop, you deserve that
