Experienced hair stylist wanted to start her own trendy, upscale

After graduating from high school, Angela Daninger took a suggestion from her high school sweetheart and enrolled in beauty school.
Today — some 15 years later — she’s now the owner of a trendy hair salon in downtown Sumner: Main Street Salon.
“I really wanted the right location,” she said. “Sumner is so cute.”
The salon officially opened this month.
Daninger, 33, began her beauty career at the Gene Juarez Academy of Beauty in Federal Way the summer after graduating from high school. She then made her way up by working at the Gene Juarez Advanced Training Salon in Seattle, then a Gene Juarez salon in Southcenter.
The stylist spent the next nine years working for Salon Parente in Federal Way before moving to the Sumner/Lake Tapps area. The Des Moines native worked at a salon in the Lake Tapps area for two years before she found the perfect location to start her own business.
“You can’t beat Main Street,” Daninger said.
She wanted to open an upscale salon with a modern, trendy look — similar to Gene Juarez.
“I wanted to work in a beautiful salon,” Daninger said. “I wanted that for my clients.”
And staying close to home was a plus, because she started a family with her high school sweetheart, she said. Commuting or moving to a big city for work would mean seeing her husband and two children less often.
Opening in Sumner worked out well, Daninger said. Clients have a neat place to shop after getting their hair done, and some come from Seattle, so it provides extra incentive to make the drive to Sumner.
Both Daninger and stylist Amanda Bergman said they were surprised that there was so much foot traffic through town, but it’s been good for business, so it was a pleasant surprise.
Bergman met Daninger last year because their children go to school together, she said. At the time, Daninger told her she would give Bergman a call if she ever opened her own salon.
“I already feel successful,” Daninger said.
Daninger is hoping to attract four more stylists to fill out six stations.
